DIEGO MENA

Where do you currently live?
Dalston, London
What methods and techniques do you use when you create your posters?
Hmmm, that depends but usually hand drawn lettering and drawings that I scan and treat on the computer, output it to films and screen print. Also cut-outs, which is something I want to do more of. I would like to experiment with more handmade approaches such as drawing directly on tracing paper and/or splicing films and putting them back together. I have a couple of collaborations coming up which will go in that direction.
Whilst you work what are you normally listening to?
To be honest, usually nothing. After working so many years in the music industry I have developed a deep interest in silence.
At the place where I print they always have the radio on. Absloute Radio. It hurts.
If you could design a poster for a person or band of your choice, who would it be?
Broadcast. I was planning to contact them to design a poster shortly before Trish passed away. I will miss them.
Who or what is your creative influence?
Tough question. I don’t know if I can name a particular artist or movement. I guess it can come from anything: books, films, politics, modernist art movements, etcetera. I’m quite partial to the work of Sonnenzimmer though.
